Louisiana Auto Insurance Rate Decrease Approved for Progressive Policyholders

Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple has approved a Louisiana auto insurance rate decrease for hundreds of thousands of drivers insured by two Progressive companies, lowering average premiums statewide beginning this winter.

The approval allows Progressive Security Insurance Company to implement a 6.6% average rate decrease affecting more than 270,000 private passenger auto insurance policyholders across Louisiana. At the same time, Progressive Paloverde Insurance Company received approval for a 4% average rate reduction for nearly 200,000 policyholders.

The 6.6% reduction for Progressive Security follows a previous 3.2% rate decrease the company filed in July 2025, according to the Louisiana Department of Insurance.

Together, the two Progressive companies account for approximately 23.5% of Louisiana’s private passenger auto insurance market, making the approved changes significant for the state’s overall insurance landscape.

The new rates will take effect Jan. 16 for new auto insurance policies and Feb. 13 for policy renewals. State officials emphasized that the approved figures represent statewide averages, and individual policyholders may see different changes based on personal risk factors.

Progressive attributed the rate decreases primarily to a reduction in the frequency of insurance claims, the Louisiana Department of Insurance said in a statement.
